It occupies the site of a former open meadow where slaves gathered for worship. A plain one-story structure was built in 1838 for religious services and a day school. The church was identified as the African Methodist Church and informally known as the &#8220;Hill Church&#8221; or &#8220;Church on the Hill.&#8221; The building was eventually expanded, and incorporated in 1876. Eventually the property was abandoned as a church, but educators Charles and Jeanette Chipman purchased the property and deeded it to the Newtown Association. Currently, visitors can enjoy the variety of educational displays and cultural events highlighting our area&#8217;s rich African-American Heritage. Surrounded by wildlife in the heart of the Atlantic Flyway, the Museum features the world\u2019s largest and finest public collection of decorative and antique decoys. Classes and other social events are also regularly available.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Nanticoke Riverfest\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nanticokeriverfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nanticoke Riverfest<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Takes place the second weekend in July and the Nanticoke River is open for citizens to float down the river on inner tubes. This three day festival features a carnival and free concerts with live bands.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Seaford Christmas Parade\" href=\"https:\/\/visitsoutherndelaware.com\/event\/seaford-christmas-parade-1\/2021-12-04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Seaford Christmas Parade<\/strong><\/a><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>The biggest Christmas Parade on the Delmarva Peninsula. It is a night time parade, on the first Saturday of December.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Seaford Museum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.seafordhistoricalsociety.com\/index.cfm?ref=89265\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Seaford Museum<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 The Seaford Museum is a proud member of the Chesapeake Gateways and Watertrails Network in partnership with the National Park Service. Visiting the Seaford Museum will provide you with a delightful, unique experience journeying into the history and culture of the Nanticoke River headwaters. Featuring all fiber optic lighting and a new maritime gallery (opening the summer of 2014), this museum tells the story of the oyster shucking, shad fishing, steamboat, canning, and ship building industries at the turn of the century.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TSSmithandsons\/\"><strong>TS Smith &amp; Sons<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; In Bridgeville, this is a seasonal produce stand famous for their u-pick apples and peaches. Wagon tours of the farm can be scheduled. TS Smith is a working farm, and you can see how your fruits and vegetables are grown.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"The Woodland Ferry\" href=\"https:\/\/deldot.gov\/Programs\/woodland_ferry\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Woodland<\/strong> <strong>Ferry<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Located west of Seaford, the ferry operates sunup to sundown, seven days a week with no fare charged; the 200-year-old cable-run ferry boat crossing the Nanticoke River, one of the last remaining ferries on the East Coast, was established circa 1793 by the Cannon family, and served as a major river crossing and trading center for travelers.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"The Woodland Ferry Festival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americantowns.com\/place\/woodland-ferry-festival-seaford-de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Woodland Ferry Festival <\/a><\/strong>&#8211; A wonderful family event held the second Saturday of September each year.
